Frank Becker – Blackbird Point : Tatum Treland-Schlapper
The story of how Blackbird Point came to be is short, sweet and comical. As legend has it, an old guest of Treeland’s named Frank Becker gets the credit. Frank was a good ol’ boy from Chicago who loved to musky fish on the Chippewa Flowage. He also loved a little whiskey from time to time….
One early evening Frank was out fishing in the Hell’s Half Acre area, while he was taking a break from casting he happened to notice a blackbird perched on a branch just over the water. As he was watching the blackbird, there was a sudden disturbance in the water underneath and out came an enormous musky! Low and behold, the musky snatched the blackbird right off of that branch!
Frank went back to the Treeland Bar and told his story to anyone who would listen! Whether they believed him or not is another story!
But there you have it, BLACKBIRD POINT!
