Group Effort: You can always tell when the kids hook into anything larger than a panfish when fishing off the dock by the trailer at the Lake Chippewa Campground and this time was no different. The sounds are like a cross between James Brown screeching and raccoons fighting. As the commotion echoes through the cattails to the campfire Dad knows to start running but after several “false alarms” dad was not moving fast enough as the two girls flew past the campfire to the landing net, did an about face and headed back to the dock.
On the way by I caught enough of their words to figure they had a fish hooked of gargantuan proportions and if they did not get the net to the boys right away the fish be on the dock going fin to fist with them. By the time I got down to the dock the battle was over and their prize was subdued in the net. The beast turned out to be a Northern Pike, of gargantuan proportions turned out to be in the neighborhood of 18 inches. The lure was a white Beetle Spin. And the smiles say it all.
