Habitat for the Future – Project Preserves and Enhances Fishing

Habitat for the Future

Habitat for the Future: Fall 1996 marked the start of the largest cooperative preservation and environmental project ever undertaken on the Chippewa Flowage. It continued in the summer and fall of 1998, and will be an ongoing program every year.

The Chippewa Flowage Resort Association and the Chippewa Flowage area Property Owners Association joined forces to preserve and enhance the fishing on the Big Chip through a major fish crib program.

We have volunteers from both organizations donating labor, boats and gas and money to construct cribs to be placed in about 20 feet of water throughout the lake. As of 10/1998 we have placed 431 cribs in the past year. The crib total to date approaches 1,700 structures. These habitat structures will provide safe havens for the younger fish population.

We invited you to Adopt-A-Crib or Reef-of-Cribs.
We will appreciated any amount you can gave.
Material cost per crib was $10, with cribs being placed in reefs of 25.

This is an ongoing project please give annually.

Thank you in advance for your support.
